At Risk/Crisis Counseling

"Columbine" still rings in teachers’ and administrators’ ears as they face the continuing issue of: What to do about students experiencing crisis? Those students who are having difficulty must be provided with help to assist them with their personal crises. Even more critical is the need to ensure that behaviors and issues of the student in crisis do not create safety issues for nor disrupt the high quality of education provided to other students. Amidst it all, attention must be paid to ensure that the student in crisis also continues to engage and maintain academic achievement.

The Lincoln Center can help For over 25 years, we have been working alongside teachers and administrators, not as "here today, gone tomorrow" consultants, but as direct, in-school partners.

We are experts at managing students in crisis and those at risk. TLC’s Crisis Intervention Counseling and Drug & Alcohol Prevention (CC-DAP [pronounced see-dap]) services addresses the daily dilemma of student crisis and confrontation that daily faces teachers and administrators. CC-DAP frees district staff from the frustrating and time-consuming process of both rendering and arranging services… services that call for TLC’s specialists who can provide intervention and support immediately, on an as-needed basis.

TLC’s CC-DAP Counselor will assume whatever responsibilities are deemed appropriate by the School Administrator in the management of student crises.

Specific CC-DAP Services

  1. In-school, supportive counseling to "high risk" students individually and in groups.

  2. Acts as a resource person for school administrators to assist students in crisis.

  3. Coordinates the management and delivery of individual service needs with school administrators, guidance personnel, teachers, and other community agencies.

  4. Develops and implements programs related to alcohol and other drug abuse and prevention, including provision of aftercare support.

  5. Serves as a resource person for the district’s Student Assistance Program (SAP) team(s) by providing coordination, student screening, and liaison services.

  6. Provides individual and group counseling for students concerned about alcohol and other drugs or identified as vulnerable to substance abuse.

  7. Coordinates activities with parents and community groups to plan and implement programs designed to reduce substance abuse.

  8. Provides forums for parent and community participation educating the community in terms of alcohol and other drug education.

  9. Conducts courses for parents focusing on communication skills and discipline strategies.

  10. Provides linkage with community agencies to serve families and students needing referrals to out-of-school programs.
